Glossary
Even without discussing censorship, China can be a very controversial topic. Just the name "China" can cause heated arguments. For purposes of simplicity and avoidance of argument regarding labels, this website will use the following meanings terms. If necessary, I'll add more words over time.
50 Cent Army
- freelance propaganda web editors who are paid per post to support the Communist government online in China
- also referred to as the 50 Cent Party
- it is estimated that Communist China has more than 300,000 freelancers in this army
- in 2010 it was revealed via party leaks that China plans to use a similar technique internationally
Censorship
- suppression of speech or other forms of communication that are considered undesirable
China
- commonly used name for the People's Republic of China
- on this website this not include Hong Kong, Macau, or the Republic of China (Taiwan)
Hong Kong
- a part of China that is administered under a separate type of government from China
- not included as a part of China in this website
Macau
- a part of China that is administered under a separate type of government from China
- not included as a part of China in this website
People's Republic of China
- the official name of China, per this website
- also informally referred to as the PRC, Communist China, mainland China, and Red China
- although arguably a part of the PRC, Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan are not included in this website
Republic of China
- the official name of Taiwan, per this website
- also informally referred to as the ROC, Nationalist China, and Free China
- although arguably a part of the ROC, China, Hong Kong, and Macau are not included in this website
